Two dubious goals in the last 10 minutes of play from a free kick and a breakaway cost Toronto FC Academy U19s to suffer a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Capital FC.

The U19 ranks were thin and young due to first team call-ups (for the Toronto FC Reserve League match) and a Canadian national team Camp. The team was so depleted that it had to call on players that are significantly younger than their Canadian Soccer League opponents.

Toronto's youthfulness was evidenced by 14-year old Jordan Hamilton scoring the go-ahead goal for the U19 squad.

Academy Director Stuart Neely took the loss in stride.

"I loved the performance of the young boys tonight. They fought like lions and to have two goals scored in such a poor manner from missed calls is very disappointing. We deserved much better even with such a young squad whose average age was 16. We are all gutted with the loss but so proud of the fight and the effort to play football."

U19 head coach Danny Dichio also expressed his pride in the young Reds.

“I’m very, very proud of my young team tonight. They showed great attitude & fantastic desire to wear the Toronto FC shirt. That is the first thing I ask of all my players.”

Neely and Dichio both lauded the supporters that came to watch the Academy for being "brilliant as usual."

NOTES: The U19s leading goal scorer Stefan Vukovic played 90 minutes for the Toronto FC Reserve squad in a nil-nil draw against Philadelphia ... Vukovic starred for the Young Reds with a hat-trick (his second of the year) in their last match, a 5-2 victory over Windsor ... the senior Academy squad has two wins and losses from four games this season.
