Toronto FC coach Preki confirmed that he has named Canadian international midfielder and Scarborough native, Dwayne De Rosario as the club’s new captain.
Preki told the players of the decision before training in Oakville on Thursday morning.
De Rosario takes over from his former Canada teammate Jim Brennan, the club's first captain, who announced his playing retirement on Wednesday to become assistant general manager of the Reds.
“Dwayne is an experienced player in MLS. He knows what it takes to win and will be a good leader for this team,” said Preki of De Rosario.
