Toronto FC exercise option to buy Auro Jr.

Toronto FC announced today that the club has exercised their option to buy defender Auro Alvaro da Cruz Junior “Auro Jr.” from Brazilian club, São Paulo FC (São Paulo).

“Auro showed in 2018 that he’s a very capable two-way player and an important part of our team,” said Toronto FC Sr. Vice President of Soccer Operations & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Auro is an attacking threat on the wing who also puts in solid defensive work. We are excited to get this deal done and ensure Auro is a Toronto FC player as we continue to shape our roster for the 2019 season.”

Auro Jr., 22, made a combined 28 appearances, registering five assists for Toronto FC during the 2018 season while on loan. He made his Toronto FC debut on February 20 against the Colorado Rapids during a 2018 Concacaf Champions League match.
