Three Keys to the Match: Toronto FC at Portland Timbers

POR Three Keys 2018

Out west to take on the 2015 MLS Cup champs. Here are the Benjamin Moore Three to the Match to our midweek meeting with the Portland Timbers.
Derby Fallout

Rivalry Week is now in the rear-view, but its last effects could still be felt come Wednesday night.

After a dominating performance at home, Toronto FC will be looking to carry the momentum earned from Saturday’s derby win over the Montreal Impact. On the other side of the pitch, the Timbers are coming off a hard-fought loss to archrivals Seattle Sounders. TFC have a great opportunity to build on Saturday’s win, while the Timbers will be looking to wash away the bitter taste of Sunday’s defeat.

Altidore’s Return

The beast is back.

After missing TFC’s last two matchups vs. San Jose and Montreal, Jozy Altidore is set to return to the fold. Since recovering from a foot injury that sidelined the U.S. international for months, Altidore has proven just why he was so sorely missed with some impressive link up play as well as a handful of timely goals.

With a tough road test ahead, head coach Greg Vanney will surely be leaning on the big man to help nick a result.

Squad Depth

The 2018 season has required an all-hands-on-deck approach, and Wednesday night should prove to be no different.

In the midst of an injury-riddled season, Vanney has been be forced to lean on his squad’s depth time and time again. And facing a quick turnaround and cross-continent road trip, you can expect to see a fair bit of squad rotation as the playoff push continues.
