We Are TFC - Ashtone Morgan

This is the latest installment of We Are TFC. Every week, we’ll sit down with one of the Reds and help you get to know them a little bit better, on and off the field. This week, Devang Desai chats with Ashtone Morgan. The Toronto native continues to work his way back from injury. We hope you’ll enjoy this series and let us know which TFC players you’d like to see profiled in the future.
Take a look at your phone, what photo to you means the most and why?

MORGAN: This is my inspiration right here. He’s the reason why I’ve been playing football since I was three and I do it for him.

Who are your heroes?

MORGAN: My parents.

How much did they help you follow your dream of playing pro?

MORGAN: Yeah just what they provided me over the years as an only child growing up in the city especially. It's easy to get lost in this big city and they kept my head on my shoulders. I’m here today because of them.

Favourite player, past or present?

MORGAN: Roberto Carlos and Zinedine Zidane for sure because of their  greatness.

Favourite pastime?

MORGAN: Fashion is up there – clothes, music. I love music. Coffee.

When I say Toronto, What’s the first thing that comes to mind?

MORGAN: For me it’s just life. It’s my world.

Favourite neighbourhood?

MORGAN: I’ll say Ossington and Queen West.

How much does being able to represent your city mean to you?

MORGAN: Surreal. It’s amazing. Getting to play for my city, my people, my fans and my family. As a local kid growing up in the city and to play downtown just means the world to me.

Who is the funniest player on the team?

MORGAN: There’s a couple of funny guys, Jozy Altidore's pretty funny, Danny Lovitz.

What’s the secret behind Danny Lovitz’s humor?

MORGAN: It’s nice dry humor.

How would people close to you describe you in one word?

MORGAN: (laughs) one word? Oh man. I’m an only child so I don’t know what to say.

How would you describe yourself?

MORGAN: Reserved. It takes a lot for me to open up to people so I would say I’m reserved.

Favourite movie?

MORGAN: Goodfellas

What are you listening to right now?

MORGAN: I'll tell you right now actually. Just downloaded it. It's weird. My World by Lee Fields.

How are you killing time during the offseason?

MORGAN: Travelling and going downtown.

Where to?

MORGAN: For sure New York for a bit. Somewhere hot after that, not too sure about it. Undecided.

If you weren’t a soccer player, what would you be doing?

MORGAN: I would probably be a teacher.

What would you teach?

MORGAN: Guidance Counselor actually. Or teach English.

Favourite moment with the Club so far?

MORGAN: Definitely qualifying for Playoffs for the first time in history last season.

Strangest quirks or superstitions you've seen from teammates?

MORGAN: Would have to say Tsubasa Endoh not touching a ball before the first game.

What's your ultimate goal in life?

MORGAN: My ultimate goal? To raise my family like my parents have raised me.
