Vanney Vazquez Training

TORONTO – After a week’s worth of training and discussion, only matchday remains.

The Reds took to the training pitch for the last time ahead of Wednesday night’s return leg at BMO Field, with just one game standing between Toronto FC and a return to the MLS Cup Final.

As the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs trudge on, head coach Greg Vanney admitted that his side is looking forward to getting back down to business.

“They guys are ready for tomorrow,” he told reporters. “They’re tired of training, tired of talking, they’re just looking forward to getting on the field and settling it over 90 minutes.”

Wednesday’s match represents a do-or-die match for the Reds, entering the tie as favourites against visitors Columbus Crew SC. The stakes couldn’t be higher, but midfielder Victor Vazquez wouldn’t have it any other way.

“We cannot tie to the game, we cannot do anything else but win. In my case, I don’t feel the pressure; I’m excited to play,” the Spaniard said. “We have to be really strong.”

For captain Michael Bradley, the opportunity to take the field in front of the BMO faithful is what the team has been fighting for all season long. By virtue of their Supporters’ Shield triumph, the Reds have ensured that the last game of their season will be played at home, an invaluable asset in their quest to return to the MLS Cup Final.

“We knew what the Supporters’ Shield really meant for us. We get to dictate how our season ends, whenever that may be. We get the second leg at home, we host the final if we get there. The relationship this team has with our fans, our supporters, and this city is pretty special. I expect an incredible atmosphere tomorrow night.”
