Academy Collegiate Roundup: Week 8

This is the Toronto FC Academy collegiate roundup where we keep tabs on our Academy graduates competing in collegiate programs across the continent. There are currently 15 grads lacing them up in both the NCAA and U Sports. 

NCAA

Ethan Beckford – Freshman – Penn State University

Beckford picked up the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honour for his performance last week. The forward continued his hot run of form finishing off a PK in Penn State's 2-1 win over James Madison. Beckford also made the start in a 2-1 victory over Northwestern. The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 5-9-2 and 2-6-0 in the Big Ten. Penn State will open the Big Ten tournament on Sunday against Indiana.

Dante Morrissette – Freshman – Northeastern

Morrissette did not appear in Northeastern's season finale. The freshman appeared in 15 of the Huskies' 18 games this season. Northeastern did not qualify for the CAA tournament.

Kota Sakurai – Freshman – Dartmouth College

Sakurai came off the bench for Dartmouth in their 1-0 win over Harvard. The win improved the 20th ranked Big Green's record to 10-3-1.

Brogan Engbers – Freshman – Liberty University

Engbers did not appear for Liberty in their game this week. Liberty is 10-4-1 on the season.

Malik Smith – Freshman – Grand Canyon University

Smith did not appear for GCU this week. The Lopes drew with Seattle U 1-1 and defeated Utah Valley 3-2 in overtime. GCU is now 7-9-1 on the year.

Thomas Mickoski – Sophomore – St John’s University

Mickoski came on as a substitute for St. John's in their 1-0 win over the 10th ranked Georgetown. The Red Storm is 8-6-2 on the season and 5-2-1 in the Big East.

Leonard Sohn – Sophomore – Manhattan College

Sohn did not feature in the Jaspers' 1-0 win over Niagara. Manhattan in 9-7-0 on the season.

Kevon Black – Senior – Duke University

Black did not appear for the Blue Devils this week. Duke is now 12-3-2 on the season and will open their ACC tournament on Sunday vs. either Clemson or Syracuse.

Michael Marcantognini – Senior – Michigan State University

Marcantongnini came off the bench in MSU's regular season finale. The midfielder played 39 minutes in the Spartans' 1-1 draw with Indiana. The 7th ranked Spartans open their Big Ten tournament on Sunday against Ohio State.

Eli Roubos – Senior – Florida Gulf Coast University

Roubos started and went the full 90 in FGCU's 5-0 win over NJIT. The defender and the Eagles open up their ASUN tournament on Sunday against NJIT or Lipscomb.

U Sports

Robert Boskovic – Sophomore – Ryerson University

Boskovic started in Ryerson's first round playoff game as the Rams knocked off Queens 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Boskovic again made the start as the Rams took down the University of Toronto 0-0 (3-2) on penalty kicks.

Andrew Dias – Sophomore – Ryerson University

Dias started both playoff games for the Rams and had two shots on goal in the win over U of T. The Rams will now play the York Lions in the OUA semifinal.
