Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco was named the Alcatel Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 25 of the 2017 MLS season. This marks the third Player of the Week award for Giovinco this season after winning in Weeks 8 & 21.

Giovinco’s three goals in two games this past week (all of which are nominated for the Week 25 AT&T Goal of the Week) helped lead Toronto FC to two victories and opened up a nine-point gap atop the Supporters' Shield standings. He scored his fifth direct free kick goal of the season, tying an MLS single-season record (since records became available in 2003). Giovinco now has 12 direct free kick goals in his MLS career, extending his lead atop the all-time leaderboard. Giovinco was also named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 25.

Toronto FC’s all-time list of MLS Player of the Week honours includes: Justin Morrow (Week 23 – 2017) Sebastian Giovinco (Week 8, 21, 25 – 2017, Weeks 20, 22 – 2016 & Weeks 13, 14, 19 – 2015) Jozy Altidore (Week 1 – 2015), Jermain Defoe (Week 2 – 2014), Robert Earnshaw (Week 2 – 2013), Danny Koevermans (Week 17 – 2012 & Week 27 – 2011), Joao Plata (Week 8 – 2011), Dwayne De Rosario (Weeks 5, 10 – 2010), Amado Guevara (Week 10 – 2009) and Chad Barrett (Week 17 – 2009).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
