Academy Update

Toronto FC III wins a pair of games

TFC III started their week with a victory over Sigma FC in the L1 Cup. The L1 Cup is a single knockout tournament consisting of four rounds with the winner taking home the L1 Cup.


Cyrus Rollocks scored the lone goal for the Reds in their 1-0 victory. Phil Di Bennardo earned the clean sheet. TFC III will now face the winner of North Mississauga and Windsor TFC in the second round of the L1 Cup.


TFC III capped off the week with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Sanjaxx Lions in league play. Rollocks scored twice in the first half and Matthew Srbely, Ethan Beckford, and Luca Petrasso all added second-half goals in the win. Gianluca Catalano was in net for the Reds earning the clean sheet.


Toronto FC III is now 3-2-0 on the season. They return to action next weekend when they host ProStars FC (0-4-1) on Sunday at 1:00 PM.


OSL and YRSA Seasons Kick-off

Every Academy teamā€™s season has now officially begun with the kick-off of both the OSL and YRSA seasons this weekend. The Ontario Soccer League is a competitive amateur soccer league that is considered the fifth tier of Canadian Soccer.


The Toronto FC Academy U-17 Team (2000) that competes in the OSL U-21 Elite Division kicked off their season with a 4-0 victory over the PCC Supersonics. Zakaria Abdi scored a brace and Lucas Areco and Terique Mohammed added the others.


The Toronto FC Academy U-16 Team (2001) that competes in the OSL U-21 Provincial Division defeated the Woodbridge Strikers 3-2 on Saturday. Tysen Phillips, Antonio Carlini and Brayden Borutskie had the goals for the Reds.


Elsewhere the TFC Academy U-11 team (2006) that competes in the YRSA U-12 division opened their season against Markham on Saturday.


OPDL Update

The OPDL returned to action following a break for the Victoria Day Long Weekend. Here is how the Academy teams fared:


The Toronto FC Academy U-15 team (2002) that competes in the OPDL U-16 division defeated Aurora FC 3-0 on Saturday. Goals from Julian Altobelli, Julian Accettola, and Joshua Soloman paced the Reds.


The Toronto FC Academy U-14 team (2003) that competes in the OPDL U-15 division defeated Vaughan 3-0 on Sunday. Ben Kaplan, Juan Sanchez, and Nayke Greenidge-Duncan scored the goals for the Reds.


The Toronto FC Academy U-13 team (2004) that competes in the OPDL U-14 division fell at the hands of Oakville on Saturday. Lucas Fiorini and Dekwon Barrow scored the goals in the 5-2 defeat.
