2017 Academy Update: May 5-7

OPDL Opening Day

This is the Toronto FC Academy update for the Weekend of May 5-7:

U-14s go undefeated in Vancouver

The Toronto FC Academy U-14s (OPDL U-15s) were in Vancouver last week to play a trio of pre-season friendlies.

The team opened up with a 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps residency. Matthew Medeiros opened the scoring off a Nakye Greenidge-Duncan free kick. Greenidge-Duncan doubled the lead off a great ball from Ifeolwa Adenuga. Kosi Thompson buried a rebound to make it three. Stefano Capano added a second-half brace to pace the Reds to a 5-0 victory.

The Reds then squared up against the Seattle Sounders Academy. Ifeolwa Adenuga opened the scoring on a great solo run through the Sounders defence. Kobe Franklin added another to lead the Reds to a 2-0 victory.

The Reds finished off their trip with another 5-0 victory over the BCSPL selects. Goals from Thompson, Greenidge-Duncan, Franklin x2, and Lowell Wright paced the Reds.

The team finished the trip with a +12 goal differential and recorded three clean sheets while in Vancouver.

OPDL Season Kicks-off

The 2017 OPDL season kicked-off this weekend at the Kia Training Grounds and at numerous host sites across the province. A reminder that all Academy teams play against competition that is a year older in the OPDL.

The Toronto FC Academy OPDL U-14s were victorious over the Whitby Iroquois 7-2. Goals from Cristiano Candelaresi, Fraser Geddes, Keegan Walker, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty x2, Gabriel Pellegrino and Aidan Hugo for the Reds.

Meanwhile, the U-16s fell to Vaughan SC 4-0 at the Ontario Soccer Centre and the U-13s opened their season against Whitby at the Kia Training Grounds.

TFC III battle Sigma

Toronto FC III lost its first game of the season on Sunday falling to Sigma FC 4-1. Sigma jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before TFC IIā€™s Malik Johnson pulled one back in the 36th.

Sigma regained their two-goal lead before finishing off the game with a late penalty kick.

Toronto FC III is back in action next weekend when they travel to Oakville to take on the Blue Devils. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM.
