Dallas Cup Recap: Toronto FC III vs. Tigres

TFC III vs. Tigres

Dallas – Toronto FC III dropped its third and final group stage match 2-0 against Mexican side Tigres UANL.

Tigres went ahead just 4 minutes in, after a scramble in the box had the ball find the Tigres forward who fired home the close-range shot.

The Reds came close to equalising later in the first half when off a corner, defender Rocco Romeo got his head onto an outswinger, but his headed effort was deflected wide of the net.

Despite the small size of the field, the match had quite the atmosphere. Tigres had a large contingency of fans that were very vocal. Not to be outdone, Toronto FC’s U17 and U12 teams were there cheering on their fellow Reds.

Tigres doubled their lead 15 minutes into the second half on a beautiful goalazo. The Tigres winger cut across the top of the box from the left flank then looped his shot over keeper Gianluca Catalano.

In the 82nd, Tigres was reduced to 10 men after one of the midfielders was cautioned twice. However, it was just a little late for the Reds who, despite their efforts, could not find the back of the Tigres net.

Toronto FC III finished the group stage of the Dallas Cup with a 1-1-1 record, good for second in their group. TFC III now awaits the results of the other groups to see if they can advance as the best second place team. If they do not advance, TFC III will play a friendly before heading home on Monday.
