Toronto FC kicked off the second phase of their preseason on Wednesday with a friendly against NASL side Miami FC.
The Reds applied significant pressure to Miami early on and opened the scoring on a Justin Morrow goal. Jozy Altidore broke through the backline and was in one-on-one with the keeper. Altidore sent his shot off the far post, but Morrow was there to clean up the rebound.
The Reds doubled their lead courtesy of a Sebastian Giovinco strike. Armando Cooper laid a great ball into the middle of the box for Giovinco to run onto. The 2015 MLS Golden Boot winner casually curled home his second of the preseason.
Shortly after, Giovinco converted from the penalty spot to record a first-half brace. The Reds went into the break with a dominant 3-0 lead.
A few minutes into the second half, Benoit Cheyrou found the back of the net. Jordan Hamilton played a short ball to Cheyrou at the top of the box. The Frenchman dribbled around a Miami defender before slotting home a low drive with his preferred left foot.
Trialist Aikim Andrews scored his second of the preseason and Toronto FC II’s Raheem Edwards added another as the Reds chased their lead to six. Miami FC added an injury time goal to finish the match at 6-1.
The Reds return to game action on Sunday when they take on Orlando City.
