Toronto FC will host its fifth annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day at this Saturday’s match against the Philadelphia Union. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at BMO Field.

Close to 400 members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families will be in attendance through donations from Toronto FC season seat holders and staff. Toronto FC players will wear “Support Our Troops” t-shirts for opening ceremonies. In addition, the yellow “Support Our Troops” ribbon will be placed on all Toronto FC player jerseys for the match.

“For the fifth straight year, Toronto FC is proud to welcome members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families to BMO Field for day of recognition,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. “Our season ticket holders, players and staff have donated tickets for the occasion and we are proud to honor all those who serve and thank them for their commitment and sacrifice.”

Throughout the day members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be honoured and recognized in a variety of ways. Members of the Canadian Armed Forces will create a guard of honour tunnel during player walk-on with flag party during pre-match festivities. The national anthems will be performed by Sgt. Casslemen and the opening coin toss will be handled by Rear Admiral Darren Hawco. During the opening ceremonies a large Canadian flag will be unveiled on field by members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Following the match Toronto FC players will join the members of the Canadian Armed Forces in attendance for a photo opportunity in the West side of the stadium.

Prior to Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day, Toronto FC hosted 20 members of the Canadian Armed Forces at the Kia Training Grounds on Thursday. The guests watched training and meet the players and coaching staff. The visit concluded with a lunch and scrimmage on field.
