Drew Moor defender

Toronto FC announced Wednesday that the club has signed free agent defender Drew Moor. As per club and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Moor becomes the first free agent signing in club history.

“Improving our defence is our top priority this off-season and we are very happy to bring Drew to Toronto FC,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Drew brings valuable MLS regular season and playoff experience to our backline. He is a proven winner and a leader with success in our league. Drew had a number of interested suitors and we are very pleased that he chose Toronto FC as his club and that he wanted to be part of what we are building here.”

Moor, 31, joins Toronto FC after spending the past seven seasons with the Colorado Rapids, where he captained the club the last three. He was acquired by the Rapids via trade with FC Dallas on August 31, 2009. He went on to make 188 combined appearances in league play and playoffs with Colorado. Moor was part of the Rapids 2010 MLS Cup Championship winning team, which also won the 2010 MLS Eastern Conference title. On August 27, 2011 Moor played in his 69th consecutive game, setting a new MLS record for consecutive matches played by an outfield player. This past season Moor made his return to the Rapids line-up after suffering a torn ACL during the 2014 season. He made 22 appearances and was named to the 2015 MLS AT&T All-Star Game roster.

“This free agency period was a great opportunity to look at a wide range of options and choose a club and a city that was going to be the best fit for my family and me,” said Toronto FC defender Drew Moor. “We instantly felt that Toronto gave us the best of both worlds and I’m excited to help make a difference on the pitch here but also to make this community home. I am very grateful to Colorado and the Rapids fans for their support over the past seven years and look forward to an exciting new chapter in my career in Toronto.”

Moor was originally drafted by FC Dallas, sixth overall in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. He made 128 combined appearances (league and playoffs) for FC Dallas before being traded to Colorado. In 11 seasons, he has made a total of 316 combined appearances (league and playoffs) and has scored 22 goals and added 7 assists, while logging over 27,000 match minutes.

Moor began his collegiate career at Furman University before moving to the University of Indiana. At Indiana, he won back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Moor has earned five caps for the United States Men’s National team during his career. His first cap came on July 2, 2007 against Paraguay in the 2007 Copa America tournament.
