All For One Recap: Playoffs

Ashtone Morgan All For One

The episode starts with what I think is some extremely impressive cinematography. We see the empty streets of Toronto, which is a rare sight for anyone that has lived in the Big Smoke.  As we are shown the empty city streets we are reminded of how often our hearts were left empty at the end of past seasons. It’s a low feeling but with all the disappointment this fan base has been through, it puts the team's accomplishments this season into a better light. It may not have ended the way we wanted, but what a ride it was.

I really enjoyed the overlap between the Red Bulls game and TFC memories from broadcasters and reporters, including former Reds defender Adrian Serioux. It made me truly appreciate the journey that it took to get to this point. One of the things I love about shows like this is that it has the opportunity to tell stories that we would never hear otherwise. A lot of times these stories come from a role player a coach, but in this episode the story that really took hold was about a reporter. Gareth Wheeler’s inspirational tale was a real highlight of this episode and the way he tied his story to the ups and downs of TFC’s journey was fantastic.

The game itself is something I feel I could watch over and over. Jozy Altidore’s red card while sitting on the bench was an ominous start. Seeing Damien Perquis’ fiery reaction after Jozy’s ejection was great television. Herculez Gomez was phenomenal in this game and his opening tally was one of the best goals of the season, mostly because of what it stood for. Sebastian Giovinco’s same day journey from Rome to BMO Field was capped with the goal of the season.
I loved hearing from Ashtone Morgan and Jonathan Osorio, two Canadians who have been here long enough to understand what this win meant for the fans and the city. Seeing them celebrate and express their emotions immediately after the game was something to behold.

After the uplifting win against the Red Bulls came the heartbreaking playoff loss in Montreal to end the season. This was a real tough game to watch again. As crushing as it was to watch it helped bring some needed perspective. We’ve come far, and while we didn’t get our final moment of glory, I’m going to enjoy what we did achieve.
BEST MOMENT: I couldn’t pick a best moment because there are two here. Of course I’m talking about both the TFC goals against the Red Bulls. While Seba’s goal is a good bet for the best of the season, Herc’s opening marker was just as big in terms of pure excitement.
SILVER LINING: I know the boys got eliminated but I’m going to look on the bright side. Did anyone else notice Joe Bendik bust a move in the locker room after the Red Bulls match? He’s got skills.
CHAMPAGNE MOMENT: When the Toronto Blue Jays clinched a playoff spot it was pandemonium in the locker room. I was looking forward to seeing the boys let loose a little bit. Unfortunately the closest we get to champagne bottle poppin’ is when Greg Vanney entered the locker room and slams his water bottle down and proudly exclaims, “Playoffs!”
