Hérculez Gómez made his Toronto FC debut when he replaced Benoit Cheyrou in the 71st minute of TFC's 3-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.
Gómez made an instant impact, launching a shot from 25 yards out that required a good save from Luis Robles.
The 33 year-old spoke to members of the media following the match.
On coming on with the score 2-0
Any time you come into the game you want to have an impact and to take one late like that hurt because I felt for a good 10-15 minutes we were taking it to them, tides were shifting, tides were turning, so it's frustrating, but it's something I need to build on.
On the challenges presented by the Red Bulls
It's frustrating from the standpoint that Jesse [Marsch] has them believing, has them buying into a certain style. So that's always a tough team to play, when everyone buys into that, but it wasn't like they had a lot of buildup and beat us that way. They beat us on our mistakes, plain and simple. Bad turnovers cost us and a team like that, that constantly presses, should be tired come the 75th minute, but they weren't because we constantly turned the ball over.
On his fitness
If I go 90 this weekend (against Orlando) you won't hear me complaining. I'm happy to be back playing ball and I'm excited. I think this is all very new and exciting for me.
