Altidore Returns To Toronto

Jozy Altidore vs. Montreal

Toronto FC is getting Jozy Altidore back sooner than expected.

The American striker had been away at the Gold Cup since the beginning of July. Following the group stage teams are allowed to make up to six roster moves. U.S. National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann made three changes to his roster. One of them was replacing Altidore with LA Galaxy striker Alan Gordon.

As a result, Altidore is on his way back to Toronto to rejoin the Reds ahead of Saturday’s match versus Philadelphia.

“We got the email from the U.S. Soccer Federation that he’s going to be returning,” said General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko on Tuesday.

“Obviously Jurgen and his staff have to make decisions and I think it’s pretty normal for the roster to change a bit. Jozy picked up the hamstring injury last month and perhaps he’s still getting back from that. I can tell you Jozy loves being in Toronto and I think he’ll be excited to get back on the pitch for us.”

Altidore has recorded six goals in 12 league games for Toronto FC in 2015.
