Training Notes: Reds prepare for Vancouver

Toronto FC trained inside the bubble at the Kia Training Ground for the first time since returning from Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday.

There was good news, as Benoit Cheyrou and Justin Morrow were full participants in training. Head coach Greg Vanney declared both players were 100 percent fit following the session.

The club spent Tuesday in the classroom as well as on the field. There, the session focused on physical conditioning. TFC will fly to Vancouver on Thursday in order to adjust for the time difference.

Greg Vanney, Sebastian Giovinco, Jackson and Justin Morrow spoke to the media following training. Here’s some of what they had to say.

Vanney
On being back in Toronto

“It’s nice to be back in our bubble. We’re working on some final details. We got another game behind our belt last weekend against Costa Rica. This week is about tightening things up, making sure we’re physically prepared and mentally prepared as we go into opening weekend which we’re very excited about.

Does this team have an identity yet?

“I think we have a clear indication of where we’re headed and what we’re doing. I still think our relationships on the field are going to be developing for a while. We don’t have to be at Z today, but we have to be moving towards Z by the key moments of the season. I think who we are as a team is evolving day by day.

On the status of Cheyrou and Morrow

“They’re fine. They were all in today. Both of them were in 100 percent today and should be fine [for Saturday].

Giovinco

Has he adjusted to the team and the city?

“Everything has settled down a little bit. I’m happy because I can live normally, with no stress.”

What was the biggest change since coming to North America?

“Of course it’s different and I’ll need a little more time. I’m happy because I know I have the support of the team, the coaches and everyone else."

On his fitness levels

“I’m very happy [with it]. I worked very hard [in Italy]. It will get better throughout the season."

Jackson
On the birth of his daughter

“It was a unique experience. We’re really excited with the birth of our child. Everyday is a new experience and a new happiness.”

Has fatherhood changed your life?

“Right from the first day. You lose sleep, you’re up all night. You want to know what she’s doing, how she’s feeling, if she’s sick or hurt or happy. Right from the first day it’s been a great experience.”

Are you ready to play?

“I’m not 100 percent match fit yet. I was training in Brazil during the offseason. I need a couple more weeks to be 100 percent ready for play.”

Morrow
How is your ankle?
Yea, it’s fine. The staff has done a great job of keeping us fresh and organizing us. They’ve done a good job of having sessions after practices that are going to keep us fresh throughout the year.
Are you comfortable with the way Greg wants you to play?

“It’s been a little but of an adjustment, but I’ve always considered myself an attacking outside back so I’m looking forward to it.
