Youngsters make mark in Philly

While it was a tough weekend for the big club, Toronto FC’s youngsters continue to play inspiring soccer.

TFC’s 1998 squad battled through a 10 hour bus ride to Philadelphia to compete in the Generation Adidas Cup Round #1 Qualifying tournament. People can learn a lot about each other over a 10 hour trip. This team learned they have what it takes to compete against just about anyone.

Liam Fraser and Richie Ennin led the team to a 3-1 win over DC United to begin the tournament. Though DC was the stronger, more physical team, TFC were better tactically. The backline, comprised of Steve Furlano, Nikola Stakic, Marc Gallo and Gabriel Boakye, dealt with an arsenal of talented DC attackers with exceptional resolve.

The Under 16 team joined TFC’s 98 squad in Philadelphia and enjoyed success of their own. They managed to win twice, and watched the 98’s beat the Philadelphia Union in a friendly match on Saturday.

On Monday the Genearation Adidas tournament continued, as TFC played the New England Revolution and managed to gut out another result.

This trip wasn't just about the footy. Philadelphia was explored from top to bottom.

Senior team looks for double

Meanwhile the TFC Academy senior team's quest for the double continues this week. One week after completing their championship winning season in League One, the Academy will play for a spot in the League Cup final on Thursday. If they win that game, the TFCA will play in the final at BMO Field on Sunday.

Completing the double means a home and away date with Québec's PLSQ winner in November. Good luck this week!
