Four Reds Called for National Duty

Canada Soccer announced Friday that four members of Toronto FC have been called into the Canadian Men’s National Team. Goalkeeper Quillan Roberts, defender Doneil Henry, and midfielders Kyle Bekker and Manuel Aparicio have been called into Canadian Head Coach Benito Floro’s 23-man roster for the upcoming friendly match against Colombia, on Tuesday, October 14 (9:15 p.m. ET) at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ, USA.


Henry, 21, has earned 11 caps for Canada. The Brampton, Ontario native earned his first cap for Canada's senior team on August 15, 2012 in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. His most recent cap for Canada was on September 9, 2014 in a friendly match against Jamaica where he started the match and played the full 90 minutes in Canada’s 3-1 victory. Henry has made a combined 23 appearances between MLS league matches and the Amway Canadian Championship this season. He has scored three goals for the club, and was also named to the MLS Team of the week for Week 19.


Bekker, 23, has earned 12 caps for Canada. He made his debut as a starter against Denmark on January 23, 2013. His most recent cap for Canada was on September 9, 2014 in a friendly match against Jamaica where he came on in the 45th minute, in Canada’s 3-1 victory. Bekker has made 19 combined appearances this season for Toronto FC between MLS league matches and the Amway Canadian Championship.


Aparicio, 19, earns his second call up to the Canadian Men’s National senior squad. He was previously called-up for a preseason camp back in January 2014; but has yet to register an official cap. This season Aparicio spent time on loan with Toronto FC’s USL PRO Club affiliate Wilmington Hammerheads FC. He appeared in 19 matches, starting in ten, adding one goal and logged 808 minutes during the regular season for Wilmington. He also came on in the 69th minute in Wilmington’s 4-1 playoff defeat on September 13 vs Sacramento Republic FC.


Roberts, 19, earns his second call up to the Canadian Men’s National senior squad. He was an unused substitute in Canada’s 3-1 friendly match victory on September 9 vs Jamaica. This season Roberts spent time on loan with Toronto FC’s USL PRO Club affiliate Wilmington Hammerheads FC before being recalled on August 6. He appeared and started in 17 matches, logging 1514 minutes, with a record of 5-4-8 while registering six clean sheets. He was named the USL PRO Player of the Week for Week 18, and was also named to the USL PRO Team of the week for week 8.
