Canada Qualifies For FIFA U-17 World Cup

Canada twice came from behind to defeat Jamaica 4:2 in the decisive quarter-final match of the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Championship on Saturday 13 April, 2013 at the Estadio Agustín MuquitaSánchez in La Chorerra, Panama.
The win qualifies Canada for the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013 to take place in October. It will be Canada’s second-consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
It was a night marked by the resiliency of the young Canadian team, as it fell behind twice in the first half before mounting a dramatic three-goal comeback in the second half to book a place at UAE 2013.
Jamaica’s Khalil Stewart opened the scoring when he snuck in behind the Canadian back-line and finished to the bottom corner in the 6th minute.
After a period of sustained pressure in search of an equalizer Canada levelled things in the 38th minute when striker Andrew Gordon followed up on his first header off the bar to nudge a second attempt over the line – but the lead did not last long.
Jamaica answered back almost immediately taking the 2:1 lead minutes later when Stewart cut in from the left flank and hit an effort that sailed past Canadian keeper Marco Carducci after taking a deflection off of defender Elias Roubos.
The Jamaicans then enjoyed perhaps their best spell of the match after the half-time interval but Canada held firm before taking control of the game.
Substitute Jordan Hamilton made a run down the left before squaring the ball to Hanson Boakai who hit the post wit his effort but made no mistake in burying the chance at the second time of asking in the 64th minute.
Thirteen minutes later it was Gordon who put Canada ahead.
Midfielder Marco Bustos developed the play down the right wing before crossing it into the box where Gordon eventually finished from close range to make it 3:2
With Jamaica fading, Canada then sealed the win when Gordon turned provider, sending a fine ball in from the right side, and Hamilton rose the highest and placed the header into far corner – extending the lead to 4:2 in the 80th minute.
The young Canadian team would not look back from there – hanging on to win the game and book its place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Canada started the match with Marco Carducci in goal (c); Ian Fernandes, Elias Roubos, Alexander Comsia and Kevon Black across the back line; Derick Sequeira, Jordan Haynes, Marco Bustons, Hanson Boakai and Matthew Chow through the midfield; and Andrew Gordon as the lone striker.
Mikaël Cantave entered for Sequeira in the 54th minute. Jordan Hamilton entered for Chow in the 62nd minute. Ali Musse entered for Boakai in the 90th minute.

There was an estimated crowd of 500 at the match.
