TORONTO – Toronto FC have the first pick in Friday's Re-Entry Draft Stage 2 and they may just use it.

“I think there’s a good chance we will,” director of team and player operations Earl Cochrane told MLSsoccer.com on Thursday.

“There are some guys who have had some big successes in the league, guys who have won championships, guys who have been in the league, four, five, six years," Cochrane added. "There’s some quality depth and some good experience.”

But he did not indicate who might be selected or whether Toronto might make more than one pick. The Reds also had first pick but did not make a selection from the first stage of the Re-Entry Draft last Friday.

After dealing forward Ryan Johnson and goalkeeper Milos Kocic to the Portland Timbers on Wednesday have opened up roster and salary cap space for offseason rebuilding, meaning Friday’s draft could provide a start.

“We have a lot of roster space to fill,” Cochrane said. “There’s going to be a moment when guys are coming in rather than going out and hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.”

Two Toronto FC players, defender Jeremy Hall and forward Andrew Wiedeman, are no longer on the list for the second stage of the Re-Entry Draft. They were on the list for the first stage of the draft after the club declined their options for next season.

When asked if both could be re-signed by the club, Cochrane replied in the affirmative.

Defenders Ty Harden and Adrian Cann and midfielder Eric Avila remain on the Re-Entry Draft list.

Goalkeeper Freddy Hall who joined the Reds in the second half of the season, did not have his option picked up. But he did not qualify for the Re-Entry Draft because he did not have enough time in the league.
