Toronto FC defender Doneil Henry is in training camp with the Canada Under-20 squad that will compete in the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in February.

The tournament takes place in Mexico, where the top four teams will earn entry to the U-20 World Cup in Turkey later in 2013. The squad is currently training in Sunrise, Florida. There head coach Nick Dasovic will have one more extended look at his players before announcing the final squad.

“We’re looking at just basically building the team, getting individuals in here to assess them for the final group that we are going to get in for February,” Dasovic told CanadaSoccer.com.

The former interim Toronto FC head coach is quite familiar with Henry. Dasovic was integral to his development in Toronto when the homegrown defender made the jump from Academy to the first team in 2010. Since then Henry has earned caps for Canada at the U-20, U-23 and national first team levels.

“I’ve got a lot of experience, especially at international level now,” said Henry. “We’re all here for one reason, to get Canada to the next round and I just want to do my best to be a good example to these guys.”

A top four finish can be slightly easier for Canada if it can win Group B, where Cuba and Nicaragua stand in the way. Top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Canada could potentially avoid the United States in the next round by winning its group, should the powerful Americans in Group A do the same. The U.S. will have Costa Rica and Haiti in its path.

Jamaica, Panama and Puerto Rico make up Group C and the host country Mexico headlines Group D with El Salvador and Curacao.
