Reports: Liverpool Training For Frei

Stefan Frei

Multiple reports indicated Friday evening that Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei will be in England to train with Liverpool Football Club. Details have not been made official by Toronto FC.

First major source to report the training stint was TSN's Luke Wileman via Twitter. Toronto FC senior director of business operations Paul Beirne later confirmed Frei's chance to train with one of Europe's most legendary clubs. The story created plenty of speculation and reaction. Some have called it a "trial" but all indications at the moment are that Frei is simply taking advantage of a fantastic training opportunity. Liverpool's top keeper is Spain's Euro 2008 and FIFA 2010 World Cup winner Pepe Reina.

Frei is not the only Major League Soccer player training at the legendary Merseyside outfit to keep sharp over the offseason. New York Red Bulls' forward Juan Agudelo confirmed via his personal Twitter account that he too will be training with Liverpool in December.

UPDATE: On Sunday, December 11 Toronto FC head coach Aron Winter said he was happy to see his keeper stay sharp at Liverpool over the offseason. Read more.
