Montreal head coach Jesse Marsch surprised many when he uttered Houston forward Brian Ching’s name as the opening pick of the 10 player selections. A day earlier on Twitter, a post circulated suggesting Ching would retire if he was selected by the expansion team.

MLS’ other Canadian team, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, lost defender/midfielder Jeb Brovsky.
