Dallas Defender On The Move?

The reported interest in FC Dallas centreback George John by a Premiership club could have an impact on Toronto FC’s chances in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Currently tied on three points each following first round of Group C matches in the CCL, Toronto and Dallas are set to meet next Wednesday at BMO Field for a top of the table clash in this six-game round robin phase of the continental tournament.

VIDEO: May 11, 2011 - John draws a questionable penalty against Toronto.

Blackburn Rovers Football Club is in the mix for John, who has been stellar in two matches against Toronto this season – both of them 1-0 clean sheet victories for the Texans.

In perhaps a move to shore up the backline ahead of John’s transfer, Dallas acquired Jeremy Hall from Portland on Friday, giving up talented midfielder Eric Alexander, who was capped by the U.S. national team in December of 2010.

Hall is not a like-for-like replacement should John vacate Pizza Hut Park, but head coach Schellas Hyndman is known to make the most of what’s available to him. Despite losing MLS Most Valuable Player David Ferreira to a long-term injury this season, Dallas sits just five points back of Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS standings. If John is lost to Dallas, Hyndman will have to find a new partner for Ugo Ihemelu at the back.

The European transfer window closes on August 31. Toronto plays Dallas a week earlier, but the Hoops - who are admittedly considering the Rovers' offer - may wish to protect their investment if a deal isn't completed by August 24 when FCD visits BMO Field.
