Iro Ready To Move Past Mistakes

Andy Iro is not going to dwell on the mistakes in D.C. last Saturday.

The Toronto FC defender had a nightmare outing during which 10-man D.C. United’s attacker Dwayne De Rosario took advantage of the Englishman’s gaffes on way to a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw.

VIDEO: Andy Iro talks after training Tuesday.

“Obviously the second goal was a bad mistake on my part,” a regretful Iro said after training on Tuesday.

“I apologize to my teammates for that, the fans deserve better and I know I can do better.”

He was later involved in a penalty decision that allowed D.C. to equalize, but Iro feels wallowing over his woes would be another lapse in judgment. He is ready to move on.

“If I get bogged down by what I could have done, what I should have done, I won't be able to give my best effort on Saturday.”

“For once I wish we had that Wednesday game.”

Iro and TFC learned on Tuesday that the Reds’ third goal in D.C. had been awarded to Danny Koevermans. The defender had originally been credited with the strike. Toronto hosts Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at BMO Field (GOL TV Canada, 7:00 p.m. ET).

While Iro has had an unsteady beginning to his TFC days, forward Peri Marosevic is experiencing the opposite.

The 22-year old Bosnia-born U.S. forward has scored twice in his first two league appearances in a Toronto shirt after being signed by Aron Winter from FC Dallas. Marosevic has been understandably upbeat.

“You always want to come in and try to impress,” the forward told GOL TV Canada.

The former Michigan Wolverines top goal scorer in the U.S. college system came into MLS with high expectations, drafted fifth overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Unable to break through in Frisco, Marosevic is hoping to make a lasting impact in Toronto.

“I've been able to put myself in the right situations ... I'm happy about it. Hopefully we can turn the ties into wins and get some (more) points on the board.”

When asked if he has done enough to earn a start in Toronto’s burgeoning attack, Marosevic didn’t seem concerned.

“That's up to (the coach). All I can do is be ready when my name is called.”
