A sizzling performance from TFC youngsters Monday night matched the 36C (98F) heat at kickoff, as Toronto FC U-17 Academy team began a 7-1 romp of New England Revolution in their opening match of the 2011 Generation adidas U17 Cup in Frisco, Texas.

By far the man of the match was Sergio Camargo with two goals and a few quality final passes for his supporting cast to finish off.

The opening strike of the match came from Michael Petrasso on a delightful through ball in behind the Revolution defence at the 16th minute. Petrasso's touch finished off a solid build from the back.

Not to be outdone, Omari Morris notched his first at the 20th via another silky pass from Camargo.

Just 18 minutes later, Camargo finished off his first half domination with a nicely slotted home penalty kick. The Young Reds led 3-0 at half and deservedly so.

Camargo continued his action in the second half with a long range shot that beat the New England keeper to his right hand side.

New substitute Jordan Haynes found his rhythm at the 50th minute, slotting in a right footed shot home off the post. It was 5-0 at that point and the boys were not finished. Dylan Carreiro came on and scored at the 67 and 78 minute mark of play, leading to a 7-1 final in the opening game.

[inline_node:4307]Academy Director and head coach, Stuart Neely was quoted as saying, "We are always under the microscope whenever we play and it is good to witness some quality football from the group. Families have placed faith in our coaches and we have given the same in return to the players."

For Neely, the one blemish was a goal conceded at the 68th minute to make it 6-1.

"I was not happy at all. I don’t care how many substitutes we make, they are made to change the face of the game, provide players with rest and give others an opportunity to show their talents."

"We lost our shape, our desire to win every ball and recover - it cost us a terrible goal. I am not just focusing on this goal, but it was costly mistakes, one after the other that lead to this goal and it must be corrected. We must always be seeking to improve the development process of our players."

The other result in the group Monday night saw Chivas USA beat Colorado Rapids 4-1.

“It was an interesting affair. Both Danny Dichio and myself watched the match in advance and saw some quality football at key moments in the contest. Even down 4-1, Colorado was a dangerous team. In the end, the quality of Chivas USA stood out,” said Neely, “and we will have our hands full in the next game.”

New England and Colorado play Tuesday July 26 at 6:30 p.m., while the Young Reds take on a very talented Chivas squad at 8:15 p.m. the same night.
