Canada has been ousted from the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. By failing to get past the group stage Canada exits with its worst showing in the biennial regional tournament since 2005.

In its three round robin matches from Group C, Canada lost to the United States 2-0, beat 10-man Guadeloupe 1-0 on a penalty kick and could only manage a 1-1 draw against Panama on Tuesday, conceding a stoppage time equalizer that made it highly unlikely for the Canadians to advance into the quarterfinals.

Led by head coach Stephen Hart, many observers had high hopes for Canada, some even calling it the strongest squad for the country since 2007 when it reached the semifinals of this competition. In 2009 Canada won its group, but lost to World Cup-bound Honduras in the quarterfinals.

Canada's fate was sealed when the United States beat Guadeloupe 1-0 in the last game of the group stage. That assured Panama and the U.S. passage to the next round from Canada's quartet.

NOTES: Influential PSV Eindhoven midfielder Atiba Hutchinson missed Canada's last match due to injury and would have likely missed games going forward ... Defender Marcel de Jong was also injured for the Panama game and has returned to his club in Germany for evaluation ... Toronto FC midfielder Julian de Guzman will decamp with Canada and could be available for the Reds' Saturday match against Seattle ... Toronto FC defender Dicoy Williams was out of Jamaica's last group match. The Reggae Boyz will face the United States in the quarterfinals, though it is unclear if Williams' knee injury suffered in the second game is severe enough to keep him out of further action.
