Winter Careful With Attakora

Toronto FC defender Nana Attakora and winger Alen Stevanovic missed training for the second straight day with the first team. Neither player was able to participate Tuesday morning. Captain Maicon Santos was at Cherry Beach with the squad, but did not take part in all of the exercises.

"Maicon has some pain, but it's nothing," said head coach Aron Winter. "Alan (Gordon) and Jacob (Peterson) are fit, they are two good players, for Saturday we need those players."

Gordon and Peterson have enjoyed two successive days without any setbacks. An abductor strain has kept Gordon sidelined, while Peterson pulled up with a hamstring injury at Vancouver's Empire Field last month in the first leg of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship Final.

The left sided midfielder has featured in just five games (one start) for Toronto but has looked strong enough to travel as the Reds ready for a pair of matches away from home.

On the status of Attakora, Winter believes he has to "be careful" with the defender and "wait until Saturday" to make a decision. Attakora left last Saturday's match against Kansas City at the 89th minute with a leg injury.

Losing defender Adrian Cann for the season to an ACL tear, and Dicoy Williams and Julian de Guzman to the Gold Cup this month, vacanacies have emerged in the Toronto squad.  Winter is looking to returning and promoted players to seize on this opportunity.

"You have to always be aware, prepare for the next game - that you have 11 players on the field that will battle together for results. You have to try some new players."

Toronto plays Los Angeles on Saturday, June 11 at 10:30 p.m. ET on GOL TV Canada. Four days and 4100 kilometers later, TFC will be in Foxborough, Massachusetts, visiting New England in a midweek tilt. That match - Wednesday, June 15 at 8 p.m. - will be on TSN.
