Williams Wins With Jamaica

Dicoy Williams

Toronto FC defender Dicoy Williams played the full 90 for Jamaica on Monday night in Carson, California, picking up a yellow card at the 77th minute of the Reggae Boyz' 4-0 victory over Grenada in their 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup quest.

Grenada rarely threatened the stronger, faster Jamaican side. In one attack Williams easily cleared an opposition approach at the 28th minute. His caution earned when the match was well in hand in the second half.

Jamaica received first half goals from Luton Shelton and Ryan Johnson. At the 79th minute Demar Phillips made it 3-0 and Omar Daley blasted home the fourth goal with a screamer from outside the area five minutes later. Shelton and Phillips play professional football in Norway, Daley is a member of Bradford City in England, and Johnson stars for San Jose in Major League Soccer. Jamaica possesses a tournament-high eight MLS players in its squad, including goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, who is used to clean sheets at The Home Depot Center for his Los Angeles Galaxy.

Toronto FC will arrive in Carson later this week to take on Los Angeles (Saturday, June 11 - 10:30 p.m. ET on GOL TV Canada). Williams and Jamaica will be long gone by then, they are off to Florida for their next match in Group B against Guatemala on June 10 in Miami.

Canada opens up in Group C action Tuesday night against the United States in Detroit, where Toronto's Julian de Guzman could see minutes for the national team. The match will be broadcast live on Sportsnet One and streamed at CONCACAF.com - which requires viewers to sign up for a free account.
