Reserves Fight Philly To A Draw

After Toronto FC's first team suffered a massive defeat in the today's earlier match at BMO field, the reserve squad was able to hold the Philadelphia Union to a 0-0 draw this evening at Cherry Beach.

While the game ended in a scoreless tie, there were several opportunities by both teams. Excitement started to build after a half hour when the Union mounted repeated attacks.  In the 31st minute, a header on goal was cleared off the line by Toronto FC defender Nana Attakora, followed by a stunning close range save by goalkeeper Milos Kocic.

Toronto midfielders Oscar Cordon and Matthew Gold were challenged by Philadelphia but managed to come out on top by winning balls in the air and maintaining a physical presence.

Cordon’s efforts were rewarded at the 44th minute when he managed a quality chance on goal.  Along with Gold and Sturgis, the Reds' midfield was able to control the game's tempo and switch the action when needed by playing the ball wide to fullbacks Ashtone Morgan and Demitrius Omphroy.

The scoreless match produced several shots on net, including one in the 58th minute that required a Kocic toe save on a Philadelphia breakaway. The Toronto keeper was called on again to make a key save at the 62nd minute on a Philadelphia two-on-one. Kocic’s command in his area easily made him the man of the match.

In two Reserves League matches Toronto has one loss (Columbus) and a draw.
