Where Will You Be On March 19?

Dwayne De Rosario

After a relatively quiet start to the offseason, change came fast and furious to BMO Field.

Under an interim management team led by Earl Cochrane, Toronto FC purged its squad of players deemed surplus to requirement. That paved the way for a new management team, with head coach and technical director Aron Winter at the helm, to stamp his authority on a new look squad.

Winter, along with his first assistant Bob De Klerk and director of player development Paul Mariner have insisted it won’t be a quick fix to bring TFC up to the standard that the club and its supporters desire. They have specific ideas on how to play football and the direction TFC ought to take. It’s also interesting and encouraging that they have made home grown Canadian talent a top priority in the European style they are importing to North America.

The first all-Canadian match in Major League Soccer history on Saturday against Vancouver will reveal how far Winter et al have come and how much work is still to be done in a long season.
