Frei Making Eurotrip

Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei is heading to Europe Monday as part of Major League Soccer’s Generation adidas annual post-season trip abroad.

The squad will spend 10 days in Spain, based in Madrid, and play three matches against reserve sides from Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Atletico Madrid.

Players will also get the opportunity to watch some La Liga games during their time in Spain, before returning to North America on December 9.

This is the second consecutive year that he has traveled with the generation adidas squad. In 2009, he participated in the group’s tour to South Africa. Frei graduated from the league’s Generation adidas program at the end of the 2010 season.

The 2010 MLS Coach of the Year, Schellas Hyndman of FC Dallas will be in charge of the team for the trip. It’s a terrific honor,” said Hyndman. “They contacted me six weeks ago and asked me if I’d be interested in doing that. Of course, it’s great to be thought about and it’s definitely something I wanted to do.”
