“I think he has done a great job,” said Barrett. “It is a tough situation that he is in, but we all respect him and I would like to see him get a go at coaching the team for a full season. People will play for him. I think he is very smart when it comes to playing tactical soccer and he knows how to get the best out of players.”

Barrett believes there is still much to play for this season, but whatever the outcome, he feels there is a good base to build on in 2011. “Whatever happens this season, I think there is a core group of guys here that can stay around and ensure there is some stability going into next season,” he explained. “If we can get a little more depth next year then we have a solid base to build on. We need to keep building relationships and friendships.”

Saturday’s defeat to San Jose Earthquakes put a massive dent in the Reds’ playoff hopes leaving them seven points outside the top eight with only four matches remaining. “It is really disappointing,” said Barrett. “We started badly in the first couple of minutes but I thought we responded really well. Credit to the guys because we fought to the very end. We had our chances and we should have scored. I think we deserved at least a tie.”

“We really didn’t want to drop any points against either San Jose or Seattle because we are chasing those teams. It was a real killer losing to San Jose so we need Seattle and some other teams to slip up now. Every game we will put the same effort out and make sure the concentration is there from the get go and let things fall as they may.”

Toronto FC will now switch attention to the CONCACAF Champions League. Tickets are still available as the Reds host Real Salt Lake on Tuesday night at BMO Field in the penultimate match of the Group Stage (kick off 8:00 p.m. live on GOLTV Canada).
