Maicon Looks To Get His Groove Back

Toronto FC’s players arrived back at BMO Field on Thursday afternoon following the goalless draw In Chicago against the Fire on Wednesday night.

Brazilian striker Maicon Santos successfully made it through 35 minutes on his comeback from a knee injury on Wednesday. “I didn’t feel 100 percent but it was good to be back,” he said after seeing his first action since leaving the 1-0 win over Chivas USA on August 7.

“I am going to work hard to get my fitness back and hopefully I can start playing the way I was before the injury. We still believe that we will be able to get the results we need to get into the playoffs and I want to score goals to help with that.”

The team will train on Friday morning as they prepare to face D.C. United on Saturday at BMO Field (kick off 4:00 p.m. on CBC). “We have a very short recovery time before the next game so we will have to assess the squad and see how everyone is,” said coach Preki.

The Reds will be without Maxim Usanov for Saturday’s match. The Russian defender is suspended for one game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in Chicago but midfielder Martin Saric will be available again. The Argentine missed the game at Toyota Park after being sent off in Dallas.

Chad Barrett traveled with the team to Chicago but was not in the squad for the match and his status for Saturday is still unknown as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Amadou Sanyang remains sidelined with concussion symptoms and Fuad Ibrahim has a groin strain.
