Henry Shines For Canada

Toronto FC Academy defender  Doneil Henry was named Canada’s man of the match as Canada Under 20s tied 0-0 with Spanish club Valencia in Spain on Sunday. The match was the second group game for the Canadians at the Torneo COTIF in Alcudia.

Canada created plenty of chances in the match but couldn’t find a way to break the deadlock. Valencia finished with 10 men after a sending off five minutes from time.

“We created very good scoring chances, but as in the first match, we couldn't bury them," said Canada U20 head coach Valerio Gazzola.

Henry is one of three players from Toronto FC currently away with the U20 squad. Winger Nicholas Lindsay and midfielder Ashtone Morgan are also on the trip.

All three TFC Academy players played the full 90 minutes in Canada’s 2-1 loss to open the tournament against Brazil’s Santos FC. Nicholas Lindsay continued his fine run of form by scoring the opening goal for Canada but the young Canucks conceded two goals from set pieces and subsequently lost the match.

Canada’s U20 team is playing in the tournament as part of preparations for next year’s CONCACAF U20 Championship that serves as the qualification competition for the next U20 World Cup which will be held in Colombia in July/August 2011.
