Senior Academy Wins On The Road

Allando Matheson

Toronto FC Academy won 3-2 against an inform Brantford Galaxy in the Canadian Soccer League on Saturday night in Brantford. Allando Matheson’s fine form in front of goal continued as he scored twice.

TFC threatened early when Allando Matheson was put through on goal, but his shot just missed the near post. Toronto took an early lead when Ashtone Morgan got to the goal line and delivered a cross into the box that found an unmarked Matt Stinson who clinically slotted home from 10 yards out after 8 minutes. Toronto’s lead was doubled just before halftime when Allando Matheson tapped in a cross from Josh Janniere.

The home side came out strongly in the second half and made their pressure count when keeper Angelo Cavaluzzo charged off his line to challenge Mark Reilly, but the ball fell favorably for Reilly and he slotted the ball into the open goal.

TFC looked to restore the two goal advantage and Josh Janniere provided a precise cross for Keith Makubuya but his header hit the outside of the post. Soon after, Matheson scored his second of the match and sixth in his last 3 games when he found himself in the right place at the right time to increase the lead to 3-1. It could have been four, but when Janniere swung in another good ball into the box, an unmarked Matheson failed to complete his hat trick by shooting over the goal.

Brantford made it interesting in the late stages as they capitalized on a defensive error pull it back to 3-2 with a goal from Marsalis Beckford, but the referee blew for full time shortly after and TFC Academy picked up their 2 road win in a week.

“I was really impressed with the way we approached the match today,” said Academy Senior Team Head Coach Jason Bent. “I feel the players are playing at a good level and the confidence within the squad is high. Winning breeds confidence and we want to continue this unbeaten run. We have conceded two very poor goals today which is something we must eradicate from our game, but going forward we want to continue to attack with pace and movement to keep creating chances.”
