What’s at Stake

[inline_node:4072]Toronto head into this weekend's long-awaited match undefeated at home. Five wins and a tie on their new natural turf surface at BMO Field have propelled them into third place in the Eastern Conference. Los Angeles hope to continue their stranglehold on the Western Conference; they could increase their lead on Real Salt Lake to 12 points with a win on Saturday.

Last meeting

The two teams fought to a 0-0 stalemate in their May 15 encounter at the Home Depot Center. The Galaxy strike force of Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle couldn’t find a way to beat Toronto sophomore goalkeeper Stefan Frei, while LA's stand-in 'keeper Josh Saunders stood tall against Toronto’s one-two punch of Dwayne De Rosario and Chad Barrett.

Heroes & Villians

LA's Todd Dunivant vs. TFC's Dwayne De Rosario — Former Toronto defender Dunivant and the LA defense will be assigned the task of stopping dangerous attacking midfielder De Rosario. The speedy Canadian international is a clinical finisher, and he often makes long searching runs down the left touchline that cause defenses nightmares. Dunivant, a
lunch bucket defender, returned to the Galaxy in February of 2009 after playing limited minutes in 2008 with Toronto following ankle injury.

LA Jovan Kirovski vs. TFC's Martin Saric — Kirovski will go up against a new-look Toronto back line and rugged defensive midfielder Martin Saric, who is a key part of Preki’s plan to shut down the Galaxy attack. Toronto’s Croatian newcomer is second only to New England’s Joseph Niouky in total number of fouls committed (24) and is tied with Niouky with a league-leading five yellow cards. Despite his discipline situation he does not shy away from making a hard challenge, while Kirovski is considered a master at protecting the ball in tight situations.

Stat that makes you go, "Hmm …"

De Rosario could usurp the Galaxy’s out-of-action Edson Buddle for the MLS Golden Boot Race on Saturday. De Rosario currently leads the Reds with eight goals, which is one behind the league-leading Buddle.

He said it

“It hasn’t been perfect, but the guys have really hung in there together and played hard for most of the games and have been in a position to make some plays in difficult games, and that makes a difference.” LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena on his team’s injury woes and international duty player shortages.
