Preki: Players "Believing" In System

Toronto FC coach Preki credited his team's hard work and effort as the reason for their success in San Jose. Preki watched his team win 3-1 at the Earthquakes to pick up their first three points on the road in MLS this season.

[inline_node:3889]"I liked the effort," he said. "From the first moment we worked really hard as a group and found a way to get a goal in the first half. We made a couple of changes at half time and freshened things up and scored a nice second goal. I thought we relaxed a bit too much after that and was disappointed that we gave up a goal. After that they threw everyone forward and for whatever reason we dropped back and defended too deep. Luckily we were able to hold on and take the points."

"The game is all about a group playing offence and defence. We are learning and still have a long way to go. We need to keep getting better with the ball going forward, but we are working hard on the training ground and the group is believing in the system. Whoever comes on the field is helping the team."

Dwayne De Rosario was back with the team after missing the win over New England on international duty with Canada in Argentina. The Reds captain started the match on the bench but came on at half time and scored two second half goals.

"I'm feeling great, especially after scoring two goals," he said. "It was a great win for us and will be huge for our confidence to get our first victory on the road. It is very refreshing to see the total team effort and the team work that happens every game. We are working hard in training and it is paying off. It is great to have eight goals for the season but it is most important that we keep moving up the standings."

Stefan Frei was outstanding in goal for Toronto making a string of saves and being named the team's man of the match. "I'm not bothered that I didn't keep a shut out," he said. "The most important thing is picking up three points and getting another strong performance. Under a lot of pressure in the second half it was all down to hard work."

Toronto will be without midfielder Martin Saric for next week's match against Kansas City Wizards at BMO Field after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season. Saric will now face a one match suspension.
