MONTREAL – A 1-1 draw between  Montreal Impact and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Stade Saputo Wednesday night means that Toronto FC are the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship winners with a match still left to play in the competition.

[inline_node:3903]Vancouver needed a win tonight to stay alive in the NCC against a Montreal side that had already been eliminated after losing twice to Toronto. But Ansou Toure’s 50th minute go-ahead goal for the visiting Whitecaps was canceled at the 62nd minute by Montreal’s Philippe Billy. Their strikes stood as the only goals in the match despite a late flurry from both teams.

The draw means Vancouver has three points – all draws – heading into the round-robin finale at BMO Field on Wednesday, June 2 at 8:00 p.m. Toronto, already with seven points, are out of the Whitecaps’ reach.

The Reds are on their way to play in the CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round in late July against Motagua of Honduras – a team that features former Toronto midfielder Amado Guevara. Toronto is expected to host the first leg of this knockout round.

This is Toronto’s second consecutive NCC triumph, having won this title last year on the final day of matches.
