Preki Admits Experiment Failed

Preki hammered the Toronto media durnig a workout on Wednesday.

Toronto FC coach Preki admitted his experiment of changing the team and resting key players at Real Salt Lake did not work. Preki left Dwayne De Rosario and Julian de Guzman on the bench for the first 45 minutes and saw his team concede two first half goals before finally losing 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium.

"It wasn't really a good effort by our group in the first half," he told GOLTV Canada's post-game show. "We allowed Real Salt Lake to do whatever they wanted to do and we let in two soft goals in the first half. We changed things around in the second half and we had two or three good chances during the game but overall the experiment I had tried with the group didn't work."

"For the next game we need to come to work from the first minute. A lot of guys had played a lot of minutes and we were hoping to give some guys a rest and keep it tight, but unfortuntely we gave up the goals and that gave us a mountain to climb."

"We talked before the game about not giving up set pieces, but throughout the game we gave away too many free kicks and corners. When you do that, you get punished."

"Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes. We were unlucky not to get a goal earlier but we have to find a way to get points on the road because right now we haven't taken anything away from home."

The defeat in Salt Lake was the first of five road games the team will play during the month of May.
