Academy Wins Again In Dallas

Allando Matheson

DALLAS -- Toronto FC Academy's good form at the Dallas Cup continued Monday with a 5-0 win against Kosmos FC in the U19 Division Tournament. The Reds have now won both of their games in Dallas without conceding a goal.

TFC opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Ashtone Morgan delivered an accurate cross to Allando Matheson who headed in from eight yards. The young Reds increased their lead shortly after when a well worked corner kick found captain Matt Stinson unmarked at the top of the box. The midfielder took a touch and fired the ball into the top corner of the goal.

On a very warm and sunny afternoon in Dallas, the third goal arrived just after the half hour when Allando Matheson pounced on a weak clearance and volleyed a shot into the bottom corner. The points were sealed in the 35th minute as Ashtone Morgan, who was proving to be a constant threat down the left flank, delivered a good ball for in-form striker Nicholas Lindsay to tap in from six yards out.

TFC capped off a good first half performance when Brennan McNicoll delivered another good ball from a corner kick to allow Doneil Henry to head home for a 5-0 half time lead.

The game ended with TFC convincingly winning the match, which sets them up nicely for a chance to finish top of the group when they play Malibu FC on Wednesday, March 31st.

"We played with a good tempo today and our pace hurt them in the attacking third," said Jason Bent, Academy Senior Team Head Coach. "Today we got quite a few goals from set pieces and that is an area of our game that we work really hard on. Anthony Capotosto, my assistant, has put in a tremendous amount of work in making sure the boys all know their roles and responsibilities and it definitely paid off today. We move forward trying to maintain good spirits in the camp and always strive to improve our performance levels."
