MLS Commissioner Don Garber dropped a hint or two in Tuesday’s media conference call.

Now the Toronto Globe and Mail is citing a league source in reporting that MLS Cup 2010 has been awarded to BMO Field in Toronto. It would be the first ever MLS Cup championship held outside of the United States.

MLS didn't confirm the report on Wednesday.

“MLS is looking to announce the site of MLS cup 2010 in the near future,” said MLS spokesman Will Kuhns. “There are merits to all three bids submitted and we are looking forward to a fantastic championship week in November.”

MLS did confirm the three venues which submitted bids to host the Nov. 21 championship event: Los Angeles, New York and Toronto.

On Tuesday, Garber indicated New York was not in the running for this year’s championship game. While expressing concerns over late November weather in Toronto, Garber did make note that conditions in the Canadian city were better than in Seattle during the weekend of MLS Cup 2009.

Toronto FC, which hosted the 2008 MLS All-Star Game, has installed a natural grass surface at BMO Field during the offseason in response to an outcry by players and fans over the quality of the artificial surface.

The club is in its third season and is hoping to make the postseason for the first time in its brief history.

Only two teams have played in MLS Cup at their home stadium. D.C. United won it in 1997 and the New England Revolution dropped an OT heartbreaker to the LA Galaxy in 2002.
