Toronto FC's unbeaten run in preseason came to an end when they were beaten 4-0 by the New York Red Bulls in the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic on Saturday night.
Juan Pablo Angel scored a hat-trick and to add to Toronto's misery, Julian de Guzman was sent off for a second half foul on the Colombian striker. It is the second match in a row that the Reds have played a man down following Nick Garcia's sending off in the 1-0 win over FC Dallas on Thursday.
Preki fielded three trialists in the Toronto starting line-up including right back Dan Gargan who has played in every game of preseason so far. Serbian Kosta Bajic and Nigerian Peter Ijeh started in attack.
The Red Bulls started to dominate posession as the first half progressed and scored twice in five minutes just after the half hour mark.
First Juan Pablo Angel headed in a corner from trailist Joel Lindpere in the 32nd minute, and Angel doubled the Red Bulls lead with his second goal of the night in the 37th minute from a cross by Roy Miller.
Toronto coach Preki made a number of changes at half time and introduced trialist midfielder Martin Saric, but the Reds couldn't find a way back into the game and fell further behind just four minutes after the break when Angel completed his hat-trick.
de Guzman's night was brought to a premature end with 21 minutes left to play for a foul on Angel. The referee showed the Canadian a straight red card although he had also been booked earlier in the game. Conor Chinn headed in a fourth for New York in the 85th minute.
The game brings an end to Toronto's time in Orlando and the squad will now return home on Sunday.
