In April 2011, Toronto FC unveiled plans to develop a state-of-the-art facility and soccer program that will look to develop the next generation of Canadian players through coaching, training, technology, equipment and support.
Kia Training Ground and the Toronto FC Academy opened its doors the summer of 2012.
Located on 14 Acres of land at Downsview Park, KIA training ground represents a $21 Million investment made by Toronto FC and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment in the future of Canadian soccer.
After benchmarking some of the top soccer practice facilities in Europe, United Kingdom, and North America, Kia Training Grounds includes three full size grass fields (two heated), four artificial fields, including two with air supported bubbles for year-round use, and a 40,000 square foot field house that has locker rooms, training facilities and team offices. There is also a physiotherapy and rehabilitation area, private and cafeteria style dining, and a video presentation centre.
Accessible by pubic transportation and close to the major arteries, Downsview Park's existing sports venues and amenities complement Kia Training Ground and Academy. It already houses one of the biggest soccer facilities in the country with eight existing indoor and outdoor fields.
The completion of the Training Ground and Academy completes the club's sport and development vision to grow the game in Canada and provide Canadian players a world-class facility that will allow the next generation of professional soccer players to hone their skills.
