Dallas Cup Recap: TFC III vs. Eintracht Frankfurt

Dallas Cup vs. Eintracht

Dallas – After the match was postponed yesterday, Toronto FC III played to a 1-1 draw against German side Eintracht Frankfurt in their second match of the Dallas Cup.

TFC III went behind early after Eintracht fired the open salvo via a quick counter. The Eintracht forward got in one-on-one with Steven Furlano. The forward worked his way in and slotted home the ball past an onrushing Gianluca Catalano.

The best chance of the first half came for the Reds when Malik Johnson played in forward Shaan Hundal but the German keeper stopped his low driven shot. The Reds went into the half behind one goal.

Just minutes into the second half defender Robert Boskovic made an incredible last-ditch tackle to stop a prime Eintracht opportunity.

The turning point of the match happened in the 57th minute. Furlano was called for a foul in the box on an Eintracht attacker. On the ensuing penalty kick, Catalano would come up with a fingertip stop on the Eintracht taker.

Just a few minutes later, the Reds equalised. Off a Furlano free-kick the ball fell to Shaan Hundal in the box, and the forward slotted home his third goal of the tournament.

Hundal came close to giving the Reds the lead on a 67th minute chance but his shot was deflected into the side netting.

Catalano came up with another huge stop in the 80th minute on a long-range rocket from an Eintracht forward.

The score ended 1-1 and moved the Reds to 1-0-1 in the tournament. The boys are back in action tomorrow at 3:30 PM ET when they take on Tigres UANL. Tigres drew their second match of the tournament 2-2 against Red Bull Brazil. The winner of the final game will automatically advance to the semi-final.
