2017 MLS Combine - Day 3 Recap

Combine Day 3

The 2017 MLS Player Combine wrapped up this afternoon at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The four teams played their final games of the combine in an abbreviated 40 minute-half format.

Team Copa vs. Team Control

Team Copa got a huge boost for the match as projected first overall selection Jeremy Ebobisse made his combine debut in Copa’s final match of the week. Team Control was looking to finish the combine undefeated after a win and a draw in their first two matches.

Lindo Mfeka from the University of South Florida opened the scoring for Team Copa with an absolute cracker in the second half. He created some space outside of the box before rifling home a shot over an outstretched Eric Klenofsky.

After a quiet first half, Ebobisse showed why he is highly touted in the second half, as he broke into the box and fired home a wicked strike past Klenofsky to double the lead.

Jalen Brown pulled one back for Team Control after making a great run across the top of the box from the left side of the goal. He curled in a Giovinco Esq. shot over an outstretched Jake Mcguire.

Other players who impressed during the final match were Chris Wingate and Wuilito Fernandes of Team Control.

Team Tango vs. Team Chaos

Team Tango dominated Team Chaos in the final game of the 2017 MLS Player Combine.

Brandt Bronico opened the scoring late in the second half with what could be considered the goal of the combine.  The University of Charlotte midfielder curled in a shot from about 25 yards out into the upper 90.

Tango doubled their lead off a perfectly executed set piece. The ball was swung into the far post where it was headed across the face of goal. The 6 foot 5 Jack Elliott was able to get his foot onto it to slide it into the open net.

Abu Danladi continued to impress for Team Tango. He came on as a second half substitute and made a significant difference for the boys in red.

Team Chaos’ keeper Robert Moewes made a couple of crucial saves to keep his team in the game. The Duke University alumni played his best game of the combine on Thursday.
