Tosaint Ricketts Records A Brace In Canada Victory

Tosaint Ricketts vs. DC United

Toronto FC’s Tosaint Ricketts recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Canadian Men's National team to victory over Mauritania on Thursday evening in an international friendly.

Ricketts, who captained the Canadians, opened the scoring in the 53rd minute after finishing off a cross from Junior Hoilett. Canada would add two more goals from Steven Victoria and Marcus Haber before Ricketts calmly slotted home his second of the game in the 80th minute to make it 4-0 for Canada.

The Edmonton native was subbed off in the 83rd minute, making way for club teammate Jordan Hamilton.  For Ricketts, the goals were number 13 and 14 in his international career. It was the first time that he scored for Canada since registering a brace against Belize in a September 2015 World Cup qualifying match.

The aforementioned Hamilton made just his second appearance for Canada since his October 2014 debut. The Scarborough native was able to generate a last minute scoring chance but his shot was blocked by the Mauritania defence.

Toronto FC’s Jonathan Osorio also made his return to international duty in the match. The Toronto native started and played 73 minutes before being replaced by Samuel Piette. It was Osorio’s 14th cap for Canada, but his first appearance since the 2015 Gold Cup.
