Three Keys: Avoid A Letdown

It was a truly fantastic homestand for the Reds, one that’s put them within spitting distance of first place in the Eastern Conference. They enter Saturday night’s clash with the opportunity to win five games in a row for the first time in club history, and they do it against a team that currently sits in last place in the West. This has the makings of a trap game, something Greg Vanney is well aware of. “Every game in MLS on the road, no matter how you slice it, is a difficult,” Vanney said this week. “Houston have good players on their team. If you give them chances and give away balls in bad areas they can hurt you. We have to come out ready to work.”

Match Notes

  • The Dynamo had their winless run stretched to five matches with a fourth shutout in that time, falling 1-0 to the Montréal Impact on Saturday evening at Stade Saputo.
  • Sebastian Giovinco scored his fourth career MLS hat trick – one shy of the all-time league record – and took over the lead in the MLS Golden Boot standings with 15 goals, as Toronto FC won for the third time in a week in their 4-1 win against the New England Revolution on Saturday evening at BMO Field. TFC’s overall four-game winning streak matches the club record, set last season.
  • The Dynamo have won the last two meetings in the series, both at BMO Field, including a 2-1 win there last May 10 in the only meeting between the clubs. The Dynamo have come away with points on four of their last five visits to BMO Field, TFC’s 4-2 home win July 12, 2014 was their first at BMO vs. the Dynamo since 2011.
  • The teams have played to four consecutive draws in Houston, all at BBVA Compass Stadium. The last win for either team there came in 2011, a 2-0 Dynamo victory at Robertson Stadium.
